Not every project needs the same DNO application. Use the shortcuts below to work out which route applies to yours. If you're still unsure, start an application anyway and our team will route it to the correct process.
Quick decision guide
Small-scale generation, single property. Usually a G98 notification. Applies where each device and the total generation are within the G98 threshold (typically 16A per phase for single-phase, 16A per phase per phase for three-phase). G98 vs G99: which do I need?
Larger generation, or over the G98 threshold. G99. Includes most commercial rooftops and larger domestic hybrid systems. Some G99 projects qualify for Fast Track (SGI-1, SGI-2, SGI-3).
Adding a battery to an existing solar install. Still a G99 (or G99 Fast Track) in most cases, because you're changing the site's generation configuration. Include the existing inverter and any export limitation scheme.
EV charger installation. EV chargers are demand-side, not generation. They follow the Low Carbon Technology (LCT) route, which is either Connect & Notify (smaller loads) or Apply to Connect (larger loads). We'll route it correctly from your project details.
Heat pump installation. Also LCT demand-side. Route depends on total load and existing supply. See Heat Pump Applications for the differences between Connect & Notify and Apply to Connect.
Large commercial or utility-scale project (over ~1 MW). Speak to our Grid Connection team. These projects follow a different consultancy-led route with Type B/C/D operational notifications.
You don't know whether the grid can support the project yet. Request a Grid Feasibility Study before spending on a full application.
You don't have enough site information to fill out an application. Request a Technical Site Survey.
When in doubt
Start an application through the portal with what you know. Our team classifies each submission against the current rules for the relevant DNO and puts it on the fastest legitimate route. If a different route is more appropriate, we'll tell you before submitting.
