Quick rule
- G98 is a notification used for small single phase generation up to 16A per phase (roughly 3.68 kW).
- G99 is an application used for anything larger, anything three phase, or anything with export above the G98 limit.
The catches
- Three phase always means G99, even if each phase is under 16A.
- Batteries count too. A battery inverter's rated output is included when working out the notification limit.
- Multiple systems on one property? Add them together. Two 3.5 kW inverters is a G99, not two G98s.
- Export limitation to bring a system under the G98 limit is not always accepted by the DNO. Check first.
When in doubt
Submit as G99. It's slower but a G98 that should have been a G99 will get rejected and you'll waste weeks.
