What is the G98 limit?

For a typical single-phase installation, G98 generally applies where generation capacity is no more than 3.68 kW (16 A) per phase, subject to the system configuration and applicable requirements.

For qualifying installations, G98 is normally submitted after the installation has been commissioned, within the required timeframe. We prepare and submit the notification once you send us the completed installation details.

What's the difference between G98 and G99?

G98 is a notification for qualifying small-scale generation. G99 is a formal application for larger or non-qualifying installations. G99 normally requires the DNO's process to be completed before connection, whereas qualifying G98 installations can generally be installed and commissioned first.

Yes. For qualifying G98 installations, the notification is typically made after commissioning. If it's already been installed, send us the details and we'll take care of the submission.

It depends. The correct DNO route depends on the inverter arrangement, existing generation and overall system configuration, not just the proposed export limit. Send us the system details and we'll establish the appropriate route.

Does adding a battery to existing solar require another DNO notification?

Usually, yes. Any change to an existing installation (adding a battery, changing the inverter, adding another inverter, adding panels) typically needs to be notified or applied for. Send us the existing DNO documentation and proposed equipment details and we'll review what is required.

Can you submit a late G98 notification?

Yes. If a previous installation wasn't notified correctly, send us the information you have and we'll review what is required and submit accordingly.

Installation address, customer details, MPAN, supply phase, inverter make/model and capacity, generation technology and installed capacity, commissioning date, MCS details where relevant, installer details, and any supporting equipment information.

How much does a G98 notification cost?

£50 + VAT per notification. That covers DNO Renewables' service (preparation, submission, supporting documentation, portal record and DNO correspondence relating to the notification). Any charges imposed separately by the network operator or third parties are not included.
