UK Power Networks DNO Applications
UK DNO application experts for solar, battery storage, EV chargers, and heat pumps connecting to UKPN. We submit, chase, and get approvals, you focus on installing. Every application is tracked in your portal so you always know where it stands.
Timings drawn from applications submitted through the DNO Renewables platform. Not industry-wide figures.
Working with UKPN: what we've seen
UK Power Networks covers the highest-density DNO region in the country, Greater London plus the whole of the East and South East. That means high application volumes, mature portal infrastructure, and (in our experience) some of the shortest G98 turnaround times of any UK DNO. It also means a lot of dense urban network with limited spare capacity, which shapes what we see on G99s.
Where UKPN covers
UK Power Networks is the licensed distribution network operator for London, East of England, South East England.
Postcode areas served: SE, N, NW, E, W, WC, EC, CR, BR, DA, RM, IG, EN, AL, LU, SG, WD, CM, CO, IP, NR, CB, PE (partial)
Portal & process
UKPN submissions go through the UKPN's own portal. We hold direct access and submit under our engineering credentials, so you never need to create a DNO portal account.
Our tip: Upload every document in the first submission. UKPN tends to bounce partial applications quickly.
What we've learned about UKPN
Uses UKPN's own dedicated portal, not the shared ENA Connect & Notify system
Generally fast for G98, often same-day acknowledgement
G99 requires a Letter of Authority uploaded at submission
IDNO applications follow a separate route
Why UKPN applications get bounced
Real reasons we see UKPN kick applications back to installers. Fixing these before submission cuts turnaround dramatically.
- 1
LOA in a different name to the MPAN account holder (very common on new-build)
- 2
SLD showing inverter AC output rather than per-phase output, routes the app to the wrong form
- 3
Missing G100 export-limitation certificate on export-limited G99s
- 4
Battery capacity declared without a matching inverter datasheet
Projects we handle in London
The mix of work we submit to UKPN, drawn from the applications flowing through our platform.
Domestic solar retrofits across Greater London (small G98 volumes, high frequency)
Commercial rooftop solar on East Anglia warehousing and logistics parks
EV charger installs, home, workplace, and destination, across the South East
Battery-only installs added to existing PV systems (G99 modifications)
How we handle UKPN applications
Every submission is prepared and reviewed by a real DNO engineer before it goes anywhere near the UKPN portal.
Correct routing
We identify G98 vs G99 from per-phase output before submission, no wrong-form rejections.
SLD prepared by experts
Every SLD is drawn by our team and reconciled against the equipment list before submission.
LOA & MPAN verified
The Letter of Authority is checked against the registered account holder for the MPAN.
Proactive chasing
We chase UKPN every 5 working days and respond to information requests the same working day.
UKPN DNO application FAQs
How long does a G98 notification take with UK Power Networks?
Based on the applications we submit, G98 notifications with UKPN typically take 1–3 working days. Timings vary with system size, portal backlog, and completeness of the submission.
How long does a G99 application take with UK Power Networks?
G99 applications with UKPN typically take 4–8 weeks. Larger commercial systems, export-limited installs, or projects in constrained areas can take longer, especially if network reinforcement is required.
Which portal does UK Power Networks use?
UK Power Networks uses the UKPN's own portal. We submit and manage applications directly through this portal on your behalf under our engineering credentials.
Can I choose to use a different DNO?
No. Your DNO is determined by the geographic location of the installation. UK Power Networks covers London, East of England, South East England, and installers in those areas must submit through them.
Do I need to pay UK Power Networks to submit an application?
G98 notifications and standard G99 applications are free from the DNO itself. Costs from UKPN only arise if the network requires reinforcement or you receive a chargeable connection offer. Our service fee is separate, G98 from £50+VAT, G99 from £125+VAT.
Does UKPN charge for a G99 application?
UKPN doesn't charge for the assessment itself. A chargeable connection offer is only issued when the network needs reinforcement, most domestic and small commercial installs never see one.
Is UKPN faster in Central London than in East Anglia?
In our data, UKPN's response times are consistent across their whole footprint. The regional office differs but submissions go through the same portal queue.
