What it looks like
An MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) is a 21 digit number laid out like this:
| S | 01 | 801 | 001 |
| 12 3456 7890 123 |
The bottom row (13 digits) is the core MPAN and is what the DNO needs.
Where to find it
- Any recent electricity bill. Look for the phrase "Supply Number" or a box labelled with an S at the top-left.
- The customer's online energy account.
- If neither is available, the customer can call their supplier and request it.
Common mistakes
- Confusing MPAN (electricity) with MPRN (gas). We need MPAN.
- Missing the leading zero. All MPANs are 13 digits in the core; if you have 12, add a leading zero.
- Copying from an old bill after the supply has been transferred. Always use the latest bill.
