DNO Renewables' service fee and any charges raised by the Distribution Network Operator are separate.
Our fee covers preparing, submitting and managing the application. Any charge raised by the DNO is separate to that and is not something we set or control.
When a DNO might charge
The DNO may raise a charge depending on:
- Project size and application type
- Assessment or design work needed for the connection
- Network studies (for example, an earth loop impedance study under G99 Fast Track SGI-3)
- Physical connection works or metering changes
- Reinforcement of the local network
- Witness testing or commissioning attendance for larger projects
For small G98 notifications and many straightforward G99 applications, no DNO charge arises. For larger projects, DNO charges can be significant.
Our role when a DNO raises a charge
If the DNO issues a charge or fee proposal during your application, we'll:
- Notify you as soon as we receive it
- Explain what the charge is for and what happens if it isn't paid
- Pass on any options the DNO has offered (for example, accepting a design fee to proceed to a formal quotation)
We don't add margins to DNO charges and we don't set them. Where the DNO advises us of a charge, we pass that information to you and explain the next step.
What to do if you receive an unexpected DNO charge
If a DNO charge doesn't match what you expected — or seems unusually high — send us a message from your application. We'll review it, query anything that looks unusual with the DNO, and confirm what's justified.
