What is export limitation?

Sometimes the DNO won't let you export as much as the system can generate. Here's what that means.

The idea

"Export limitation" caps how much power your system can push back to the grid, using a device that talks to the inverter and throttles it down.

When it happens

  • The customer's system generates more than the local grid can safely accept.
  • The DNO offers an approval conditional on limiting export to a lower value (e.g. 3.68 kW when the system is 5 kW).
  • Or the installer chooses to limit export upfront to make the application faster (typical for batteries).

What kit do you need?

An export limitation device (ELD) or a compatible inverter with built-in export limitation, plus a CT clamp on the incoming supply.

What paperwork does the DNO need?

A G100 form and an updated SLD showing where the export CT sits. We handle both.

Can I refuse?

Yes. If the DNO proposes a limit you're not happy with, you can negotiate or install with the reduced export. We'll flag this to you as an "Export Limit Review" status.
